2021 Youth Oratorical Contest Registration Open to Orange and Chatham County Students
Chapel Hill, NC. - The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is sponsoring a Youth Oratorical Contest for two categories, 6th – 8th graders and 9th -12th graders on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 3 p.m. in a virtual event format. The purpose is to enhance communication skills through a public speaking experience, within the context of a theme. The contest will provide middle and high school students the opportunity to express themselves, enhance their public speaking skills, facilitate character building and promote self-confidence and educational enrichment. This event is co-sponsored by the NCCU Orange County Alumni Chapter.
Contestants will speak on the following topic:
Explain how the Black Lives Matter Movement could eliminate racial inequity in America.
We are encouraging middle and high school minority students, who live within Orange and Chatham Counties, to enter the competition. The participants will have the opportunity to win a monetary award and a certificate of participation.
A workshop session will be held on March 20, 2021 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. via a virtual format. A rehearsal and practice session will be held April 24, 2021 from noon- 2 p.m. via a virtual format.
