Recently, The Post and Courier wrote an editorial about the work our Cayce Mayor Elise Partin has done for our Cayce River Arts District through her previtalization efforts stemming from her time at the Mayors' Institute on City Design (MICD)!

Sponsored by the Municipal Assn of SC , the Riley Mayors Design Fellows Program is a part of the The Riley Center for Livable Communities and incorporates many unique urban planning opportunities in partnership with the Clemson University School of Architecture, the United States Conference of Mayors, the National Endowment for the Arts, and The American Institute of Architects.

This year, the College of Charleston celebrates its 5th annual CofC Day. This day gives us a chance not only to celebrate what we love about the College, but to transform students' lives for years to come. I invite you to join in and make a gift to the Riley Center to support real life experience for our students, along with pro-bono research for organizations in need. https://cofcday.cofc.edu/campaigns/joseph-p-riley-jr-center-for-livable-communities

Congratulations to our friends and NEW neighbors, the International African American Museum on their opening day! Today, June 27, this long awaited Museum opens to the public to share the important work and stories with the world.

The Mission of the new Museum is to honor the untold stories of the African American Journey at one of our country's most sacred sites. At the Museum's entrance, the African Ancestors Memorial Garden sprawls across the grounds and reflects on the significance of Gadsdenโ€™s Wharfโ€”the point at which an estimated 45 percent of enslaved Africans entered this country. Inside, exhibitions tell the unvarnished story of the international African American experience. Historic Charleston Foundation stands alongside our city in welcoming the IAAM and congratulating them on a wonderful opening day!

For more information on this new space, visit their website at IAAMuseum.org

The Union Pier planning process will now be led by the city and the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Center for Livable Communities at the College of Charleston. Key stakeholders, including the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, will now be engaged directly in the planning process in an effort to once again create a plan for the site.

A 5-star accredited Chamber, we tackle government relations, talent development, leadership advancement, and more for our members.
