Thank you to EIU Athletics (Eastern Illinois Panthers) for serving as client for Dr. Janssen Danyi's CMN 3930 (Strategic Messages and Influence) class this semester. For this project, students conducted research, developed a persuasive strategy along with different tactics to increase student attendance at EIU athletics events and games in the future. This week, they pitched their work to the members of EIU Athletic's marketing team in Booth Library's Student Innovation classroom. Great work, everyone!

Congratulations to Abby Smith on being accepted into the NCUR research conference!

Abby found out she got accepted in January and spent the next few months preparing the poster with the help from Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Wehrle! The presentation was titled: "The Muny: A Unique, Audience-Centered Experience."

"I have always loved the Muny; I grew up attending shows, as well as my parents. So, I chose to write about how the Muny specifically prioritizes their audience. This includes free seating opportunities, altering the original Broadway scripts of their shows, constantly renovating their theater, offering cheap/relatively inexpensive ticket prices, and how they focus on their audience above status, money, etc." - Abby.

Students in the PR Campaigns course created a campaign for the EIU Food Pantry, which ran from April 13–24. 🥨🥤

Throughout the semester, students have been working extensively on research and strategic planning to develop campaigns aimed at increasing awareness of the Food Pantry’s services and reducing the stigma associated with using it.

The class is divided into three teams, each functioning as a PR agency. Their campaign efforts include a variety of tactics such as tabling events, distributing informational flyers across campus, creating and sharing social media content, and delivering class presentations to educate peers about the Food Pantry. The students have shown strong commitment and creativity in this project.

Great news!! ✈🍎

Our public relations professor Dr. Claudia Janssen Danyi has been selected for the ANA Educational Foundation's (AEF) 2026 Visiting Professor Program! The program's focus is 'Envisioning the Future of Marketing and Advertising,' and it will give Dr. Danyi a behind-the-scenes look at top companies in the industry. The goal of the program is to teach professors about the current developments and practices within the industry to foster research collaborations and aid their teaching.

Congrats, Dr. Danyi! We can't wait to hear about this amazing experience!

EIU Television and Production Instructor Drew Britton visited the Advanced Public Relations Writing and Production class to show how to create engaging videos. Drew discussed how to have different angles and how emotions evoke in a viewer.

Public Relations majors are encouraged to take classes in photography, graphic design, journalism, and filmmaking to be more versatile in the job market. Something to consider for the next semester! Thanks again Drew!
