If you agree, you should consider majoring in English. The discipline of English is large and diverse, encompassing both writing and critical analysis. English majors study how people do things with words in classes in literature, linguistics, and rhetoric, and they also work at improving their own writing craft, from analytic, argumentative, and workplace writing to the arts of writing fiction, p
oetry, drama, and essays. The English Department offers two majors, four minors for undergraduate students offering them flexibility in their areas of emphasis, and and a M.A. program with several tracks. In all our programs, students experience what makes Eastern special: small class sizes (usually between 15 and 25) taught by faculty who hold PhDs in their fields and who are active scholars and publishing writers.
