The legal community is waking up to sad news this morning. Charleston School of Law sends our deepest condolences to the Rice family.

With profound sadness, we share the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved leader, Joe.

He was more than a visionary leader. He was a pioneer, an innovator, a mentor, and a friend whose wisdom, generosity, and unwavering commitment to justice were legendary.

As hard as it will be, we will continue the work that meant so much to him. That commitment will endure as part of his legacy.

Charleston School of Law hosted the Adult Guardianship Assistance and Monitoring Program. The event paired Charleston Law students with the Charleston County Probate Court to check on vulnerable and incapacitated adults under guardianship. Students volunteer as court-appointed limited court visitors, going out in teams of two to visit adults under guardianship in homes and care facilities.

The Adult Guardianship Assistance and Monitoring Program in the Lowcountry is pairing Charleston School of Law students with the Charleston County Probate Court to check on vulnerable and incapacitated adults under guardianship.
