A fun evening at Doudna: Runway Reclaim! A Fashion Show Celebrating Sustainable Innovation.

Look who we saw there: World Language majors and minors showing their designs and/or walking the runway!

Bravo to Josephine Carroll (Spanish and Graphic Design), wearing Floating Lily by Taylor Cloud; Elizabeth Mark (FCS Education, minors in Fashion Merchandising and German) wearing her design A Stitch in Time, and Itzel Mora (Fashion Merchandising and Spanish) who presented several of her designs (Spread Your Wings; Pearls; Conexiones and Access; Herencia) that are inspired by cultural background, identity and current global issues.

Bravo to all these talented students! 👏✨

A special thank you to Penny Clay for joining the celebration!

Penny, who taught Spanish at EIU for many years before her retirement, established the Luis Clay Mendez Scholarship after her husband Luis—a Spanish professor at EIU—passed away suddenly in 2003. Luis was well known for his enthusiasm and passion for Spanish—a passion he lived every day.

Thanks to her generosity, we were able to recognize two awardees this year: Makenna McBride and Kaitlyn Evans, both teacher education candidates who exemplify enthusiasm for the teaching of world languages and a willingness to go above and beyond. 👏👏👏 EIU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Sharing some pictures from yesterday’s EIU Student Research and Creative Activity Day—so proud of our student presenters! 👏

Our after-school program teachers (Spanish & French) represented “Languages for Young Learners” (Liz Ziemer, Kaitlyn Evans, Qwinsuan Anderson, and Katie Jara).

Four French students presented on “Global French” (Annabel Force, Thomas Miller, Christian Mpopo, and Gana Ndiaye).

And our Spanish students presented—in Spanish and with accompanying artwork—on “Spanish Culture” (Josephine Carroll, Karina Warfel, and Kaitlyn Evans). 🎨

Such a wonderful showcase of language, culture, and student engagement—so much passion and talent on display. Bravo to all! 💬🌎✨👏 EIU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Eastern Illinois University Sandra and Jack Pine Honors College
