We’re proud to share that Dean Annetta represented The Citadel’s Zucker Family School of Education in Washington, D.C., joining education leaders from across the country to advocate for the future of educator preparation.

While on Capitol Hill, he met with staff from Representative James Clyburn and Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott to highlight the importance of funding for teacher, counselor, and school leader preparation.

We’re grateful for Dr. Annetta’s leadership in carrying our mission forward and advocating for the next generation of educators.

Summer may be here, but campus is still buzzing with activity!

This week at our STEM Center for Excellence STEAM Camp, campers are designing underwater robots, creating ocean-inspired artwork, and exploring cutting-edge deep-sea technology.

Through hands-on projects and lots of teamwork, they’re building new skills, sparking creativity, and having a blast along the way.

Thank you to Dr. Albert and Professor Silverman for leading the way.

As summer programs get underway, we’re proud to support meaningful experiences for children across the Lowcountry 👏

Dr. Lindsay Harman, Assistant Professor of Counselor Education, presented to Charleston County Parks summer camp staff in preparation for their upcoming summer programs at James Island County Park. Her session focused on recognizing behavior as communication, responding to behavior with empathy and structure, supporting emotional well-being, and maintaining healthy boundaries.

This collaboration supported camp staff members as they prepared to welcome campers ages 6–12 for Summer Explorers Camp and Summer Adventure Camp.

From the classroom to Yellowstone!

Citadel cadets from across campus recently completed an immersive field experience in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, sponsored by the Anita Zucker Institute for Entrepreneurial Educational Leadership.

Cadets applied entrepreneurial thinking to real-world challenges in one of the world’s premier outdoor classrooms. The experience challenged them to design creative solutions, strengthen leadership skills, and reflect on how they will bring these insights back to create impact in their home communities and future careers.

Led by Dr. Newton, the trip provided a powerful opportunity for experiential learning and innovation beyond the classroom.

The Zucker Family School of Education was honored to host a powerful educational event featuring Anita Zucker, who shared her parents’ and family’s experiences during the Holocaust and insights from her recent visit to Poland.

Students from Early College High School visited The Citadel for a campus tour and joined this important conversation in Capers Hall, gaining perspective on the history of the Holocaust and the lasting impact of remembrance, identity, and education.

Thank you to Ms. Zucker for her willingness to lead and share this message, and to Charleston County School District for their partnership in providing students with opportunities to learn beyond the classroom.
