On the 12th day of Black History Month! Epsilon Nu presents Lewis Latimer! Lewis Howard Latimer was an American inventor and patent draftsman. His inventions included an evaporative air conditioner, an improved process for manufacturing carbon filaments for electric light bulbs, and an improved toilet system for railroad cars. A true "Renaissance Man," Latimer was also a poet, musician, and civil rights advocate. He taught mechanical drawing and English to immigrants at the Henry Street Settlement and was a founding member of the First Unitarian Church of Flushing. His home in Queens is now the Lewis Latimer House Museum, which celebrates his life and the contributions of other innovators of color.
