Additionally, we sponsor intercollegiate competition, community outreach, and society social events. The UNC Charlotte chapter hosts guest speakers from industry and government at meetings held throughout the semester. We strongly encourage all civil engineering students to participate in the many events that ASCE hosts.

*ASCE was founded in 1852 when a notice went out in and around the New York

City area calling for all practicing engineers interested in starting a professional civil engineering society to meet in Alfred Craven’s office. Craven was the chief engineer of the Croton Aqueduct Department. There were only twelve respondents to this notice who later became the founders of ASCE.

*ASCE is the first and oldest national engineering society.

* The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is one of the oldest professional organizations in the nation. National membership exceeds 144,000, with over 15,000 student members.

* ASCE is the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering technical content.

* National membership is free to students which allows access to all that technical content.

* Encompasses all civil engineering

* Transportation
