"I had no idea what to expect. Now, years later, I'm graduating with a nursing degree, and Road to Hire has supported me through so much more than just my college journey." — Katie M.

Katie came to Road to Hire not knowing what the path ahead would look like. What she found was a community that stayed with her through the uncertainty, the hard semesters, and every milestone along the way.

She graduated from UNC Charlotte and has accepted a Registered Nurse position at Advocate Health.

Years in the making. Worth every step.

On Wednesday, over 250 students walked into Red Ventures and committed to their future at Road to Hire's 5th Annual Commitment Day, a milestone in a journey that is only just beginning.

From eight different Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, each student declared their next step: college, university, or military service. That's not a small thing. That's years of partnership, hard work, and belief made visible in a single room.

We heard from student speakers Brian Maradiaga, Nate Dodson, Princess Borma, Kirklin Bingley, and Lucero Garcia Turrubiartez, who stopped the room with their honesty, resilience, and vision. We watched peers recognize one another not for grades but for the values they carry. We heard the Phillip O. Berry Marching Cardinals fill an arena with energy, setting the tone for everything that followed.

None of this happens without a village.

Thank you to our chaperones, teachers, and school staff who show up every single day. To our corporate partners, donors, city and county officials, and community members: your belief in young adults fuels this work. To the Equitable Foundation, your partnership has been instrumental in expanding access and developing the next generation of leaders. And to Ric Elias, founder of Road to Hire and CEO of Red Ventures, for taking the stage and pouring into our participants directly.

A special thank you to our CEO, Dr. Monique Perry-Graves, for leading this organization with the conviction that every hard-working young adult deserves an opportunity.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. The road ahead is yours, and Road to Hire will be with you every step of the way.

Last week, our CEO, Dr. Monique Perry-Graves, addressed Mecklenburg County leaders in support of a transformational investment in economic mobility across our community.

For the past 10 years, Road to Hire has worked alongside Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, colleges, employers, and community partners to create pathways from education to high-wage careers for Charlotte students.

Today, Road to Hire students are graduating, persisting, and launching careers above state and national benchmarks, with members of the Class of 2026 entering companies like Microsoft, Honeywell, Atrium Health, and Protiviti with starting salaries ranging from $79,000 to more than $100,000.

As Dr. Perry-Graves shared during her remarks, this is what partnership makes possible.

We are grateful to Mecklenburg County for its continued support, and proud to stand alongside the educators, employers, partners, and advocates working to expand opportunity for the next generation of leaders in Charlotte.

The future of economic mobility in our community depends on collaboration, and we believe the work ahead matters more than ever.

"You guys are the fuel to our rockets, to our dreams. That's how I like to describe it." — Alvajoy A.

Alvajoy came to Road to Hire at a crossroads, unsure whether to chase his passion for computer science or take a more certain path.

Road to Hire met him at every step. Through mentorship, professional development, and financial support, he built the foundation to go all in. He graduated from UNC Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, concentrating in AI, Robotics, and Gaming.

He is starting as a Software Engineer at Microsoft. Now he's showing the next generation what’s possible when hard work meets opportunity.

"Thank you to Road to Hire for investing in me through mentorship, scholarship support, career development, and opportunities that helped prepare me for life beyond college. Your support has truly made a lasting impact on my journey." — S'Mya S.

She graduated this month with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and will be spending her summer as a Sports Marketing Intern at Truist through the Charlotte Sports Business Fellowship.

S'Mya spent four years at North Carolina A&T State University building something bigger than a degree. From community outreach to leadership roles to mentorship programs, she showed up for her campus and her community at every stage, all while developing the professional skills to carry her forward.

Road to Hire was part of that foundation. Through mentorship, scholarship support and career development opportunities along the way, she gained the tools and confidence to step into her next chapter ready.

The road ahead looks bright!

“Looking back on these past four years, I realize how much growth came from the people, organizations, and opportunities that pushed me outside of my comfort zone." - Brando G.

Brando came to UNC Charlotte as a first-generation student navigating a new environment with big goals and no roadmap. He didn't wait for opportunities to find him: he built them. From photographer to Vice President to Professional Development Director, he showed up for his community at every stage.

Road to Hire was part of that journey from the beginning. He organized events connecting students with alumni, visited high schools to speak about what it means to be first-gen, and brought Road to Hire's professional development programming directly to his peers on campus.

Last week, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Belk College of Business and will be starting a role as a Financial Services Consultant at TIAA.
The road ahead is wide open!

There’s nothing more powerful than hearing our participants reflect on their growth and share what they hope for their future 💙

This week, our CEO, Dr. Monique Perry-Graves, visited Road to Hire classrooms at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Philip O. Berry Academy of Technology and Rocky River High School to hear directly from participants as they presented final projects and reflected on their journey this year.

From storytelling and collages to an R2H rap, students demonstrated creativity, confidence, and resilience in how they shared their experiences.

Many of these participants are preparing for their next step after high school, whether enrolled, employed, or enlisted. For those continuing their journey through college with Road to Hire, support will continue with scholarships, coaching, and career development opportunities.

Moments like these are a reminder of why this work matters and the importance of creating spaces where high school students feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to dream bigger.

What does success look like?

It looks like scholars crossing the graduation stage with degrees in hand and careers already waiting for them.

Road to Hire is proud to join Johnson C. Smith University in congratulating Kyla Thomas on being named the Class of 2026 Salutatorian, completing the Road to Hire program, and beginning her next chapter as a Technology Consultant/Engineer.

Kyla’s journey reflects exactly what the Road to Hire model was built to do: support talented students from classroom to career with the coaching, preparation, and opportunity needed to thrive.

We are especially grateful to everyone who supported her journey along the way, including her coach, Ashley Bellinger, whose guidance helped support this incredible milestone.

Congratulations, Kyla. Your future is just getting started.
