Women's Leadership Development Program at UVA

WLDP is open to 1st, 2nd year, and transfer undergraduate women. Participants will also take part in a program-wide service projects. What will I learn?

The Women's Leadership Development Program's (WLDP) mission is to challenge UVA women to engage as empowered, innovative, and empathetic leaders through the promotion of their personal and professional development. The Women's Leadership Development Program (WLDP) is designed to encourage first and second year women who demonstrate great leadership potential to explore the wide range of leadership

opportunities available to them at the University of Virginia. Participants have the opportunity to engage in dynamic presentations on women’s leadership, network with fellow future female leaders, and interact with female role models from the local and national community.

2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the annual program. The program is held each spring semester and includes an opening reception, three sessions, a closing dinner, and small group meetings. In order to be considered a graduate of the program, attendance is required at all three sessions. WLDP offers participants a wide range of programming that addresses personal and professional development, networking and communication skills, self-confidence, and leadership style. Each year WLDP offers fun group activities, engaging speakers, and valuable presentations by women leaders. Goals of WLDP:

Inspire and motivate participants to further develop their leadership skills
Help participants to identify personal leadership style and apply personal strengths to leadership style
Provide networking opportunities with other participants, guest speakers and presenters
Build confidence and autonomy in participants

Abby is a second year, majoring in sociology. In her free time, she likes to binge old TV shows, watch cute dog Tik Toks, and listen to one of her many spotify playlists. Some fun facts about Abby is that she hates the color yellow and she loves rainboots. She loves how the WLDP brings together women at UVA and provides them with a chance to learn from and with each other about how to become better leaders. She can't wait to meet her small group and the other young women that will be participating in the WLDP this year!

••Diana Albarracin is a third year studying Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science. In her free time she likes to hike, drink different types of coffee, and cook. Diana is excited about being able to connect with all the amazing women of WLDP and be able to keep growing with them.••

Meet your 2020-2021 WLDP Committee!!
First up is Danielle Romeo! Danielle is one of the WLDP Co-Chairs this year. She is a third year in the Comm School planning to concentrate in IT and Management. Danielle really enjoys staying active by using her Peloton app and taking walks with friends. This year, she hopes to empower participants to be resilient leaders, no matter what challenges they may face.
