Join the PVCC Art Department, September 18, for an evening of art and film in the V. Earl Dickinson Building.

🖼️ Gallery Exhibition Opening Receptions, 5-7 p.m.

The gallery season commences on September 18, with two exhibitions: The “Annual Faculty Art Exhibition,” showing a wide variety of media from the diverse team of teaching artists at PVCC, and “Global ARTivism,” a successive showing of works by two internationally known contemporary Argentinian artists: Gaby Messina and Mirta Toledo.

🎞️ Films Talk Back: Adventures of Prince Achmed, 7 p.m.

The first installment of the 2026-2027 Films Talk Back series celebrates a centennial milestone with a live-music screening of history's oldest surviving animated feature film. The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926), based on the sweeping Persian and Arabian folktales tradition, is a 65-minute masterpiece by German master seamstress and costume designer, Lotte Reiniger. The film will show alongside a live score performed by celebrated silent film accompanist and film lecturer Matt Marshall.

In recognition of the Labor Day holiday, PVCC will close at 12 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2026. Classes scheduled to end at 1 p.m. on main campus and 4 p.m., at the PVCC Giuseppe Center, will run as scheduled.

PVCC will also be closed Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day. All buildings and classrooms at all locations will be closed for the entire day.

You are invited to a Revolutionary Conversation at PVCC.

In an inaugural lecture on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, two scholars of the Revolutionary War era, Dr. Andrew J. O’Shaughnessy and Dr. James R. Sofka, will examine many of the "considerable characters" of the Revolution on both sides, as well as the larger stage on which their story played.

Each fall the PVCC community votes on a single book to read. This year the One Book is The Anthropocene Reviewed: Essays on a Human-Centered Planet by John Green. The book is described as "a remarkable symphony of essays," where best selling author John Green "reviews different facets of the human-centered planet on a five-star scale—from the QWERTY keyboard and sunsets to Canada geese and Penguins of Madagascar."

Follow along this semester as the College reads and explores the themes and topic of this funny and complex prose. Free copies of the book will be available for students, staff and faculty at the kick-off event this Wednesday, September 2, in the Main Building Event Space. There will also be hot dogs, a food contest and the opportunity to trace your hand like the cavemen in the Lascaux Cave Paintings.
