On Sept 30, community members gathered at UPREC North Farm for our Mandaamin (Corn) Harvest and Braiding Workshop organized by Sault Tribe Health, MILES and MSUE. Participants spent the day in the field learning about traditional flint corn varieties, harvesting, braiding and cooking while reflecting on the importance of Native foodways, cultural knowledge, and seed sovereignty. The highlight was learning to braid corn from Kaya DeerinWater. Through the collaboration of MSU Extension FRTEP, MILES, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Kaya DeerInWater, and Tribal Elders, we were able to create a meaningful hands-on event! We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from one another and to honor the relationships that help keep traditional agricultural knowledge and Mandaamin alive for future generations! This work is supported by the Tribal Colleges Research Grant Program (Project Award No. 2024-38424-41469) from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, as well as the Tribal Practices for Wellness in Indian Country Project, with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

| Today, the Michigan State University Research & Extension Center in Chatham hosted 340 elementary students for the 16th annual Agripalooza, where local organizations and presenters taught the kids about agriculture and natural resources in fun, interactive ways. Center director James DeDecker shared that agricultural and environmental knowledge is important for adults and kids alike.
