SimCenter-Ctr. of Excellence in Applied Computational Science & Engineering The SimCenter: National Center for Computational Engineering is a center for integrated research and M.S. and Ph.D.

The SimCenter: National Center for Computational Engineering is a center for integrated research and education whose primary goals are to establish next-generation technologies in computational modeling, simulation and design, to educate a new breed of interdisciplinary computational engineer who can solve a broad range of real-world engineering problems, and to provide consequent leadership and n

ational impact in critical technology areas affecting defense, sustainable energy, environment, and health. The National SimCenter employs the new model it has pioneered for integrated research and education in a university setting. This model emphasizes interdisciplinary team research encompassing engineering analysis and design applications, scientific computing, and mathematics of computation. Its integrated MS and PhD programs in computational engineering offer a unique educational environment in which students can participate in interdisciplinary team research, with opportunities for significant student interaction with multiple researchers. degrees in computational engineering are offered through the UTC Graduate School of Computational Engineering. The National SimCenter also participates in the UTC Center of Excellence for Applied Computational Science and Engineering, which sponsors faculty and students engaged in advanced research projects. The SimCenter is partnering with SimCenter Enterprises, a 501c(3) non-profit corporation, to commercialize SimCenter technologies and produce a continuing revenue stream to the SimCenter to enable Chattanooga and regional businesses to utilize SimCenter problem-solving technologies for competitive advantage. The SimCenter has developed several new simulation technologies with potential commercial value, some of which are illustrated in this calendar. It has begun efforts to license SimGrid, a set of software tools for grid-generation, and is contributing to SimCenter Enterprise’s development of a disaster mitigation system to guide emergency responses in the event of a toxic release or other disaster. The SimCenter has also begun to provide analytical services to industry for improvements in energy efficiency and analysis supporting patents. These transformational efforts are enabled by generous support from a group of Chattanooga supporters including the Benwood, Lyndhurst, and UC Foundations, as well as the UT System, Maclellan and Tucker Foundations, Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, and anonymous donors.
