“I’ve always been fascinated by the tools we use to solve problems, from aircraft and cars to microprocessors,” said Aidan Silversmith, class of 2026 graduate, and Brightpoint's second student speaker at our 2026 Commencement Ceremony.
Driven by that fascination, Aidan chose to pursue an education and career in engineering. He decided to start that journey at Brightpoint so he could work on his degree while participating in an engineering internship at Amsted Rail.
“The best thing about my Brightpoint experience has been the incredible energy pouring out of everyone here,” he said. “From the students to the faculty, everyone is deeply passionate about what they do. I was genuinely surprised by the level of involvement across the board…They consistently show up in ways you’d never expect.”
Aidan, who served as president of the Student Government Association, encourages future students to immerse themselves in the Brightpoint community.
“Get involved outside the classroom,” he said. “Talk to your professors, join the student government, get involved with honor societies, and find clubs. Take advantage of whatever opportunities you can find!”
As he celebrates the completion of his Associate of Science Degree in Engineering at Brightpoint, Aidan excitedly looks ahead. This summer, after wrapping up his current internship, he will step into a research position at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Langley Research Center. There, he will work on the SCALPSS Lunar Camera System. In the fall, he heads to Virginia Tech to finish his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, with the goal of working in the aerospace industry.
