As we near the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation, Washington College is proud to continue its mission of producing thoughtful and effective citizen leaders through the launch of the Hogan Institute, which will offer programming focused on leadership development, civil discourse, and real-world problem solving. Through workshops, seminars, and public forums, students will have opportunities to engage directly with leaders and practitioners across government at the federal, state, and local levels, gaining a clearer understanding of how governing works and how it can work better. Jaya S. Basu of Bethesda, Maryland, has been awarded the prestigious Sophie Kerr Prize. “As with the best of the Sophie Kerr portfolios through the years, everyone on the committee was left wanting to read, hear, and see more,” Meehan said of Basu’s submissions for the award. “For very good reason, the promise of Jaya’s future literary endeavors has already found an audience.” Full story linked in comments.

The Washington College Board of Visitors and Governors recently announced the official appointment of Dr. Bryan Matthews ’75 M’86 P’12, as the 32nd President of Washington College. The Board unanimously approved a three-year contract for Matthews, following his highly successful 10-month tenure as interim president. Read more at the story linked in the comments.

Six students have been named to the short list for the 2026 Sophie Kerr Prize, the nation’s largest literary award for a college student. This year’s Senior Studio Art majors put on their capstone exhibition ‘periphery’ over the past few weeks in . 🖼️🎨

Their hard work over this year resulted in a large collection of work exploring underrepresented people, animals, and objects. Congratulations to Roselyn Garcia-Mendoza, Ella Jendrek, Erin Helgerman, and Rebekah McCreary Salazar on a very successful exhibition!
