The countdown begins! We are getting closer to our 10th Annual Conference. Our Keynote Speaker this year will be Dr. Ewelina U. Ochab, who works on the topic of genocide, with a specific focus on the persecution of ethnic and religious minorities around the world. She will be presenting on Thursday, March 7th at noon. Stay tuned for the full schedule of presentations.

While this three-day event will cover many issues relating to genocide, a special focus will center on the role of gender in Africa and the Diaspora.

Join the 9th Annual Conference on Genocide and Human Rights Research in Africa and the Diaspora. This year’s keynote speaker will be UN USG Alice Nderitu. The conference will host many notable speakers and feature Honorable Judge Lionel Jean-Baptiste, Dr. David Ragland, and Dr. Jermaine McCalpin. The conference will be held at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, February 23rd – 25th. This event is free and open to the public.

Save the date!

Northeastern's Genocide and Human Rights in Africa and the Diaspora (GHRAD) Center invites everyone to it's 9th annual conference on February 23rd - 25th. This year's theme is, "From Roots to Reparations to Trust Building". The conference will host two days of speaker presentations with workshops on the final day. The workshops will be especially valuable. They aim to share ways to convey the uncomfortable truths of human rights violations and genocide. The entire conference is free to the public. Be sure to follow the updates for this conference. We will share exciting updates soon. For now, save February 23 - 25th on your calendar!

Join Northeastern Illinois University and the Chicago Public Library for “One Book, One Chicago: Processing Genocide and Its Trauma in the Graphic Novel: The Complete Maus” from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 in the Golden Eagles Room on the Main Campus and via Zoom.

This year’s One Book, One Chicago is Art Spiegelman’s "The Complete Maus: A Survivor’s Tale."

Join a lively discussion of this important work with faculty from NEIU’s Genocide and Human Rights Research in the African Diaspora Research Center, Jewish Studies program, and the Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education.
