This Valentine’s Day, we would like to celebrate love stories that started at NLU. Here’s India and David’s story!

“David and India met in September 2017 at the start of the Fall 2017 term. They started chatting on a pre-class introductory post when they realized they both attended the same undergraduate institution, Hampton University, at the same time, but their paths never crossed. India knew they would become quick friends since they had an instant connection. It wasn’t hard for India to pick David out when she walked into class on the first day of their MPA program. With a small cohort of six, David and India became fast friends. They were impressed with the way each other thoughtfully answered questions in-person and on discussion posts. David was kind and always walked India to the train station after the long evening class. They began dating two months later in November 2017. The relationship got serious and the cohort quickly caught on to the new “cohort couple.” They held study dates, encouraged each other, and were each other’s accountability partners throughout their program. They successfully graduated NLU in May 2019 from the MPA program. They strengthened their blended family of five children when they married and became a family of 7 in 2021. They now own a home in Orland Park, IL, and David is a pastor of a church in Lockport, IL.”

“Shane and I met in the Fall of 2008 through mutual friends. He was a really shy guy but I found something so special about him. Over the years we got to know each other and took every chance to have fun adventures! He proposed to me in front of my close friends from Kendall at the Presidential Towers and the rest is history! We’ve been married since September 21st, 2011 and we take every moment to celebrate life and have fun adventures around the world! He’s my best friend and I couldn’t see life the same without him and his support for my aspirations.”

This Valentine’s Day, we would like to celebrate love stories that started at NLU. Here’s Jasmine and Oscar’s story!

“It all began at National Louis University, where fate brought us together through a mutual friend. I never imagined that a casual introduction would change the course of my life, but it did. We were introduced one evening at a small gathering, and from that moment on, there was something about the way we clicked that felt different. We spent hours talking, laughing, and discovering how much we had in common, despite having never crossed paths before. As we got to know each other better, it was clear that there was more than just friendship between us. Our connection grew stronger each day, and what started as a friendship quickly blossomed into love. We found comfort in each other, and support during the challenges of college life. The late-night study sessions, spontaneous adventures, and countless inside jokes became the foundation of something beautiful. Three years have passed since that fateful meeting, and now, we are not only partners in life but also partners in love. From the first time we met to now our bond has only deepened. With every milestone, every moment shared, we’ve grown together, and now, we are on the brink of a new chapter: marriage. As we get ready to say “I do” and start our forever, I can’t help but feel incredibly grateful. Our story began as something simple—two people brought together by a friend—but it’s become a love story I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Soon, we’ll be united as husband and wife, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”

Join alumni Dr. Christopher Balthazar as he discusses using strategy and mindfulness to overcome imposter syndrome.

Dr. Balthazar is a 2022 graduate with a PhD in Community Psychology. Before his current role as an Executive Director of Task Force Prevention and Community Services, he worked as a Research Project Director at Stroger Hospital, where he conducted HIV prevention and treatment research.
