Utatu Collective

Utatu Collective Utatu Collective Utatu is a Kiswahili term meaning "state of being triple or three fold".

This in itself is a reference to cultural critic and educator Harold Cruse's concept of the triple front; any effort to empower the Black community must simultaneously focus on cultural, economic, and political matters. In essence these separate fronts must be assessed and used in order to have a successful movement.

The Northeastern Illinois University Department of Counselor Education Couple and Family Wellness Center is a once-a-year event and is now accepting couples and families as clients. This is a free counseling service offered to the university and the community-at-large on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you or anyone you know is in need of A) a wellness check-up for a family or couple relationship or B) couple and/or family counseling, then this opportunity can be very helpful.

The Wellness Center, using a strength-based approach, is a training center for advanced students in NEIU’s Family Counseling Program, under direct supervision of the Coordinator of the Couple and Family Counselor Program. A team approach is utilized to provide clients with as much help and feedback as possible. This is the sixteenth year this Center has been in operation and many have found it to be highly effective for their family or couple relationship in regaining their strengths, and getting back on track.

Space is limited, and the service is offered only on Tuesdays from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. during the spring 2014 semester only. The Wellness Center is located in L**h Walesa Hall (LWH) room 4073 on the NEIU main campus at 3601 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue in Chicago. All counseling services are confidential and free.

If you or someone you know might benefit from this service, have them contact Sara Schwarzbaum at [email protected] or 773-442-5553 to set up an appointment.

PLEASE READ BECAUSE:

As the battle lines for the Afrikan mind continues to be obscured among some, it's good to know that even in the face of what could be seen as insurmountable odds there are some that have not even considered surrender or compromise as a strategy nor tactic as a means of survival.

It's with these warrior activist scholars and keepers of the tradition that the Utatu Collective stands in absolute solidarity, as we "Move The J.C.C.I.C.S Village Forward."

Asante sana Baba Kamau Rashid for your reflection, insight, and correct analysis.
