โForced sterilization is a deliberate, systemic, and targeted devaluation of Black, Brown, and Indigenous women, people, and families. It is a part of Americaโs history as a country, and it is clearly very much a part of our present, rooted in the racism, white supremacy, and xenophobia at the heart of our carceral and legal systems. It is an act done with intent -- intent to incite terror in Black and Brown and Indigenous communities here and abroad, to foment despair and hopelessness, and to erase the futures of Black, Brown, and Indigenous families everywhere. Advocates have been working on the ground for decades to oppose these human rights abuses, and to demand reparations. We see and support those efforts, and condemn a carceral and immigration system in which forced sterilization is not a failure, but a feature of its design.โ
DePaul If/When/How stands with our national organization in condemning the practices of our immigration system and ICE. We encourage you to contact your members of Congress to express your feelings and concerns on this issue.
