General information

This is an online forum offering the Community on FACEBOOK to follow a Course on Dante's Divine Comedy offered at Annunciata Parish on Chicago's South East Side on Tuesday evenings during the month of April, 2010. The study questions discussed at the class come from the University of Texas Website: http://danteworlds.laits.utexas.edu/ While this course will be offered in English, I would invite others from the Servite world to watch what I am doing here and see if you could apply this to your own languages and situations. I think that the questions offered by the Univ. of Texas site are often very good _as points of departure_ for discussion. I also believe that since Dante structures both Hell and Purgetory along the lines of the Seven Deadly Sins and then presents a truly grand and elaborately structured (though clearly outdated since the time of Galileo...) vision of Heaven, that finding one's way through Dante's Divine Comedy is a "good and salutory" endeavor. Finally, Dante was born in Florence, Italy at roughly the time as the founding of the Servite Order. Therefore, for those of us associated with the Servite Order in some way, be we Servite Friars, Sisters, Secular Order members or just "Friends of the Servites," I do think that knowing something of Dante can better help us to understand better the Servites' roots. In peace, Fr. Dennis Kriz, OSM Easter Week, 2010
