Black Studies at University of Illinois at Chicago gathered students, faculty, alumni, and community members at the Jane Addams Hull-House for the 2026 Grace Holt Lecture and Awards Ceremony, honoring the enduring legacy of Dr. Grace Holt, the department’s founder and first director. The celebration featured a powerful keynote by Dr. Lorgia García Peña, whose lecture invited deep reflection on migration, resistance, and Black women’s resilience worldwide.

Together, attendees celebrated achievements, recognized contributions, and closed out the academic year in the spirit of scholarship, community, and reconnection that defines Black Studies at UIC.
