A historic sports Sunday in London as Novak Djokovic won his 20th Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon. Then at Wembley Stadium, England and Italy played a classic overtime match for the UEFA Euro 2020 Championship. England’s path to the final began back in March 2019 at Wembley in their first qualifying match versus the Czech Republic where Raheem Sterling had a “hat trick” in a 5-0 victory. Our International Business of Sports Study Abroad students attended the match on their first night in London. Later in the week they were treated to a “master class” behind the scenes session at Wimbledon. This was an experience the students (and me!) will cherish always. I am happy to say we are going back to London March 17-27, 2022. DePaul University students can visit the DePaul Study Abroad website to apply now!

Celebrating International Women’s Day, Rachel Rossner (BUS '16), McDonald’s Marketing Manager checks in about her latest assignment for the McDonald’s All American Games –-

I do have to share that I got tapped on the shoulder for a stretch project to help on the McD All American Game. It looks different this year with no actual game, but I will specifically be responsible for creating all of the custom content with UPROXX, Overtime, ESPN, and Adidas, all to go live over the next month. Nothing having to do with the restaurant, which is my day-to-day, so it is new learnings and adventures for me, which I am loving.

Funny to think that I was first involved with McDAAG as a visitor to your class while I was at McD. And on top of that, thinking I was moving away from sports when I graduated to only be brought right back in some way. Fun realization, that’s for sure! Tell your students you can always make it back and come full circle!

And be sure to follow on IG and twitter to see the content over the next month! Shameless plug!!

Anna Wisniewski (BUS ’19) checks in about her role at REI –

I am the Customer Service & Operations Coordinator for the REI Adventure Center in Arizona. We provide outdoor tours and premium bike rentals in the Southwest. I assist in booking adventure tours, scheduling guides, and assigning equipment in our Day Tours Division. I also organize corporate outings and team-building events, as well as working in customer service.

I absolutely love my job because I get to have a hand in all the cookie jars. I assist with organization and planning as I did in class projects with Arena Partners and UEG. I also use skills learned from the San Diego Sports Project in developing marketing materials for our activities. My job combines my degree in management with my passion of sports and the outdoors, which I get to share with our guests. After the experiences in my sports and events classes, I had a good idea about the environment I wanted to work in and that was REI. After months of researching the company and applying for positions, I received an offer.

I would not be where I am without my DePaul University education. My advice for students is the saying, “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life”. Find your passion and hold on to it, because it will brighten up life.

For the 7th year our DePaul University Department of Marketing Sports Sponsorship Marketing classes met with leaders at FCB Chicago the Wednesday after the Super Bowl to review the spots and learn about the strategic and creative process behind them. The students got an added bonus this year as Bud Light’s Senior Director of Communications, Joe Lennon, joined them.
