We were thrilled to connect with students, faculty, and staff to share the impactful work of the ND Core. 💡

We kicked off the Mental Health, Earlier Center with an incredible Scientific Symposium last week!

The symposium highlighted innovative research and community-driven projects addressing early warning signs of mental health risk in toddlers. 💡✨

This first-of-its-kind center, led by Dr. Laurie Wakschlag (Northwestern) and Dr. J.D. Smith (University of Utah), is powered by a $11.7M NIMH grant. It aims to transform pediatric mental health care through cutting-edge tools like the DECIDE Risk Calculator, integrating early prevention into routine pediatric care. 🧠

By bridging science, clinical practice, and community engagement, the Center is paving the way for equitable mental health prevention starting in early childhood.

Stay tuned for updates as we build resources for families, clinicians, and researchers to improve the health of young children nationwide.

Please welcome our new Assessment Specialist, Allison Haack! Allison received her BS in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin Madison, and her MS in Educational Neuroscience from the University of London. Her research interests include early infant development and parent child interactions. In her free time, Allison enjoys cooking, gardening, and hiking. She has a goal of visiting all the National Parks in the US! We are thrilled to have her as part of our team. 💜
