Happy end of the semester SNA members! As finals season approaches, it is important to fuel your body accordingly!
• Slow carbs such as sweet potatoes, oats, and legumes are the best way to fuel your brain with the glucose it needs without the sugar spike and crash that comes with simple carbs like white bread, candy, or sugary drinks.
• Omega-3 fatty acids that are found in fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines, and trout enhance cognition and neurotransmitter speed! Walnuts and other nuts, chia seeds, and flaxseed are great plant-based alternatives as well.
•Blueberries are a well-known superfood, as their high concentration of flavonoids is linked to higher memory capabilities and cognitive function. Other flavonoid-rich fruits include strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries!
•Dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa content is rich in polyphenols, which increase blood flow to the brain- great for a mid-study-session snack!
•Lastly, but definitely not least, drink your water!! Tiny levels of dehydration can lead to impaired focus and attention, which lessens short-term memory abilities!
Good luck finishing the semester strong, you’ve got this!
