The Mossadegh Initiative was honored to host the Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle as it’s 9thAnnual Mossadegh Servant Leadership Keynote speaker on January 30, 2024. President Preckwinkle spoke about her experience and challenges of managing the second most populous county in the United States. But before that, she visited the Mossadegh Hall at the College of Business and Technology and was presented some books about the infamous 1953 American-led coup in Iran. She also met with NEIU Interim-President Dr. Katrina Bell-Jordan and then delivered her talk to a packed Recital Hall that included Professor Joshua Salzmann's guided-history student led Q&A afterwards with Alby Joseph and Karina Oprea. The event concluded after the guests were served Persian food, all thanks to the Mossadegh Keynote Lecture endowment.
The Board President was accompanied by the 12th District Commissioner Bridget Degnen, the 13th District Commissioner Josina Morita, Illinois State Senator Ram Villivalam, Illinois State Representative Kevin Olickal, Lincolnwood Mayor Jesal Patel, and Lincolnwood trustees Atour Sargon and Mohammad Saleem with special guests Jalal and Mohammad Farzaneh who had traveled from Norman, Oklahoma for the event. The Mossadegh Initiative contains several endowments that give out annual scholarships to students and provides for this annual event.
