The theme of research and strength of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics is integration of knowledge obtained from research at the level of molecules, cells, and organs to understand functions of the body at the whole organism. The objective is to understand basic mechanisms and defects in these basic mechanism with the object of translating this information to diagnosis, therapies and pr

evention of clinical disorders. Under the leadership of Dr. Jan Kitajewski, researchers lead teams in translational research including drug discovery related to heart failure, hypertension, depression, cancer, and reproductive diseases.
