First Year Program Students also learn about university life, resources, and how to be a successful student.

Offered during the autumn quarter, Discover & Explore Chicago courses acquaint first-year students at DePaul with the metropolitan community, its neighborhoods, cultures, people, institutions, organizations and urban issues. Learning is accomplished through a variety of means, but particularly through first-hand observation, participation, personal discovery, reflection, discussion and guest lecturers.

Taking good notes can help you to do better in your classes and give you something to reflect on. Do you have any good tips for taking great notes? Image Description: Pg 1: how to take better notes in class Pg 2: Choose your Format: Digital or On Paper. There's no one right answer, it's all about what works best for you! Pg 3: Be Brief. It can be tempting to get wordy with your notes, but writing concisely can help you to catch the most important parts of the lecture without getting caught up in the details Pg 4: Write down questions and thoughts that come up. These will help you to really engage with the material, rather than purely memorizing. Pg 5: Make notetaking fun! Doodle, find applicable memes, or use images or songs to help supplement your notes and jog your memory. Pg 6: Don't forget to read through your notes after class is done!

Chicago Quarter classes can be either an Expore course or a Discover course, both classes offer great benefits for students! University

University Description: On yellow and pink background with blue text Page 1: Explore Vs Discover Page 2: Explore courses: -Are ten weeks long (a normal quarter at Depaul) -Have 4 hours of class time a week - Are focused on experiential learning -Include at least 3 excursions -Capped at 28 students per course Page 3: Discover Courses: -Begin a week before Autumn Quarter -The first week is full of 28 hours of immersive experiential learning -The remainder of the course is 7 weeks -Capped at 22 students per course Page 4: Whether you choose an Explore or Discover course, your Chicago Quarter class is sure to get you started on the right foot!
