"True health is about more than data, systems, or disciplines; it's about people. Technology will continue to reshape how we learn, practice, and conduct research, but our purpose remains constant: to build human agency and help others lead healthy, self-determined lives."

- Carlos J. Crespo, AHS Dean and Professor

Exploring a future in health care starts with the right connections. 🩺

Students from UIC's Pre-Health Academic Readiness Undergraduate Program (PHAR) recently toured the UIC College of Applied Health Sciences, including our food lab and teaching garden, with guidance from Tina Lam MS, RD, LDN, CDCES, Assistant Director of the Dietetics Master's Coordinated Programs.

Programs like PHAR help students build the community and confidence to pursue careers in health care, and UIC Nutrition is proud to be part of that journey.

Whether you're aiming to become a Registered Dietitian or using Nutrition Science as a stepping stone into medicine, nursing, pharmacy, or another pre-health field, our program can help you get there.

Intermittent fasting and exercise may offer complementary benefits for metabolic health.

In a recent review, Drs. Kelsey Gabel, Rob Motl, and Paul Hibbing synthesized current research examining how these interventions work independently and together to influence health outcomes.

Why it matters:
● Helps inform evidence-based nutrition and exercise recommendations
● Advances the understanding of lifestyle approaches to metabolic health.
● Identifies important directions for future research

This work reflects UIC’s commitment to advancing nutrition and exercise science through impactful, evidence-based research.

Congratulations on the Schweitzer Fellowship award, Toi Johnson, UIC Kinesiology and Nutrition Dietetics Master's Coordinated Program Student.

"Her Schweitzer project was inspired by nutrition-related diseases in her community and her belief that children need nutrition and culinary education early in life. Toi’s personal experiences, combined with her training as a chef and her clinical nutrition science training at UIC, position her uniquely to serve some of Chicago’s most vulnerable youth."- Professor Lisa Tussing-Humphreys
