In light of , let’s see how PA students are preparing to serve their community!

Rush PA-S1 students practice their IM, SubQ, intradermal injections in preparation to volunteer for Rush Community Services Initiative Programs (RCSIP). This initiative gives PA students the opportunity to join a inter-professional program that aims to improve community health outcomes on the West side of Chicago and the larger Chicagoland area through free clinics, patient outreach, and education!

Rhianna, Class of 2023, Class Liaison, PAS-1

Rhianna is a first year PA student from Minneapolis Minnesota. Before starting the program she worked as a CNA on a surgical orthopedic floor and then got her EMT license and worked as an ER Tech - which she loved!

Rush was Rhianna’s first choice because of the small class size, it’s affiliation with Rush’s highly esteemed medical facility, the advanced practice training opportunity and their commitment to underserved communities both locally and abroad.

Her favorite part of PA school so far has been anatomy lab and clinical medicine! She is keeping an open mind but her current interests are emergency medicine, plastic surgery and interventional radiology.”

Holly , Class of 2021, PAS-3

Holly is from Kenosha, WI and studied biology at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She started as a CNA at a nursing home and rehab facility for 4 years before becoming a cardiac procedure tech in same day surgery/PACU. Rush has always been a dream of Holly’s, having learned about Rush from her mom who also attended graduate school in Chicago. She was drawn to the Rush PA program specifically for their small class size, the ability to rotate through such a prestigious academic hospital and the additional 6 months of advanced clinical training. Plus, it wasn’t hard for her to choose a school only 1 hour away from her fiancé, step-son and dog. Holly’s favorite clinical experiences vary widely and include general surgery, family medicine, interventional GI, and women’s health. In her spare time, Holly practices yoga, watches the Great British Bake Off with her family, and plans her approaching wedding 😍 👰.

Paige, Class of 2023,Class Legislative Representative

Meet Paige, PAS-1

Paige is from the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago and studied Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She then worked in healthcare for two years before starting PA school.

Prior to PA school, she worked as a CNA in a long-term care facility, as a rehab aide at a Chiropractic/PT office, and as a medical assistant in Dermatology.

Paige chose Rush because of the small, tight-knit class of 32 students as well as the diverse community that Rush serves. As an added bonus, she loves being in Chicago near her support system of family and friends.

Her favorite part of PA school so far has been getting to know her classmates and faculty on a personal level! Clinically, her interests include Primary Care, Hematology/Oncology, Cardiology, and Dermatology, but that is continuously changing with new experiences!

Carson, Class of 2021

PAS-3

Carson is from Houston, Texas but grew up in Naperville in the earlier years of his life!🤠
He attended Texas A&M University for his undergrad degree. He then moved on to work as a MA for an internal medicine physician in Houston, followed by a position as an MA under 2 PAs for a family medicine practice group in Houston.

Carson was drawn back to Rush for several things: he wanted to live in a big city, he missed his Chicago roots, he wanted to push himself outside of his comfort zone and move away from home, and he wanted to learn from the best in the fields who practice at Rush.

Carson's favorite part about Rush has been how he has been challenged to grow exponentially as a person, colleague, and provider. His clinical interest lies in Orthopedic surgery, which has (ironically) not changed since he started the program ~ha! “I’m very much looking forward to a future as an orthopedic surgical PA, while forming deep connections with patients and hopefully making positive impacts in communities along the way.”-Carson
