The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), one of only 88 Carnegie level-one research universities in the nation, is the largest institution of higher learning in the Chicago area. Our faculty are engaged in a broad spectrum of research, supervision, and graduate training. In recent years, our level of extramural funding (which provides support for state-of-the-art laboratories and research oppo
rtunities for undergraduate and graduate students) typically exceeds $5 million per annum. The department offers graduate training leading to the PhD degree in one of five divisions: Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical, Cognitive, Community and Prevention Research, and Social-Personality. The department is committed to training the next generation of leading research scientists, and to producing creative and productive psychologists who can make significant contributions to the field. In addition, the Department of Psychology offers a comprehensive high quality undergraduate program, leading the campus in baccalaureate degrees awarded and in undergraduate faculty teaching awards. It is a national leader in the diversity of the graduates, in opportunities for individualized research training, and in the quality of our Psi Chi Chapter, the psychology honors society.
