Yesterday, Malcolm X College celebrated the achievements of our Community Health Worker (CHW), Health Information Technology (HIT), and Medical Coding graduates during a special Pinning Ceremony and recognition celebration 🎓

VP Nick Hryhorczuk reminded graduates that healthcare can often feel overwhelming and impersonal — but they are now prepared to be trusted professionals who connect people to care, resources, and compassion.

Students also learned about exciting opportunities for CHW professionals, including free one-year membership opportunities through the Illinois Community Health Worker Association and the new Illinois state certification process supporting career growth and stability.

The celebration concluded with a student recognition ceremony, sendoff, and reception with family, faculty, and staff.

Congratulations to our graduates as they prepare to make a difference in healthcare and the communities they serve! 👏🏽

The School of Nursing at Malcolm X College celebrated another incredible Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Pinning Ceremony 🎓

The President shared a powerful message with graduates: for those who were ever told they were “too old,” “too young,” didn’t have the right background, or came from the “wrong side of town” — look at them now. “Show the world who you are! Be the best you can be and make us proud!”

Dean of Nursing Tammy Scott-Brand also shared a heartfelt and humorous story about visiting her father in the hospital, where an MXC Nursing graduate recognized her and excitedly exclaimed, “You’re the Dean!” before giving her a long embrace — prompting her father to jokingly remind everyone, “Hey, I’m the patient!” 😂

As she thanked students for choosing healthcare, remaining committed to serving Chicago, and answering the call for both day and night shifts, she reminded graduates that one day, a future nursing graduate may be the one caring for them or their loved ones.

Many staff and faculty were present to show their support and celebrate with students and families. Following the ceremony, a career fair was also held to connect graduates with employment opportunities and engage them as they begin their professional journeys.

And as the President said: “Now go pass the NCLEX!” 👏🏽

Congratulations to our future nurses!

🎓✨ Student voices matter at Malcolm X College

President Sanders recently met with students at our West Campus to share updates and, more importantly, create space for their voices to be heard.

These conversations are essential as we continue working to ensure every student has equal access to resources and opportunities.

We look forward to welcoming these soon-to-be graduates back as alumni—seeing their ideas and advocacy come to life.

Meet Stephanie Uzhca, Valedictorian, and Micah Perry, Salutatorian of Malcolm X College’s — two graduates who turned personal journeys into paths of service and healing.

For Stephanie, an early experience with physical therapy sparked a passion for healthcare. Supported by the Star Scholarship, she pursued the Physical Therapist Assistant program tuition‑free, building both confidence and clarity for her next steps in community health. Her success reflects perseverance, gratitude, and the support systems that lift students forward.

Micah’s journey brought him back to the classroom for a bold career change. Drawing from his own experience as a lifelong asthma patient, he transitioned from writing to respiratory care — combining academic excellence with a deep commitment to community health. His accomplishments reflect both service and the opportunity made possible through public education.

Congratulations to two graduates whose stories embody the mission of Malcolm X College. ❤️🌟🎓 Meet all of the 2026 Vals & Sals: https://graduation.ccc.edu/top-students/

❤️ MXC Day of Service | In Action

The impact continued across Chicago as the Malcolm X College community showed up and showed out.

From hands in the soil 🌱 to boots on the ground in our neighborhoods, our faculty and staff dedicated their time to making a difference—on campus and beyond.

A highlight from the day included our team volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, supporting efforts to fight food insecurity and serve our community.

This is what service looks like. This is what community looks like.
