Loyola University Chicago Fine Arts Program

Loyola University Chicago Fine Arts Program The official page for the Fine Arts Program at Loyola University Chicago. Loyola Chicago offers a prime location for this study of fine arts.

The Fine Arts Program at Loyola University Chicago aims to enable students to develop and refine their modes of perception while expressing themselves in a variety of ways. To accomplish this goal, the department offers instruction that examines an array of studio media from their multifaceted historical and ethnic perspectives. The Department of Fine Arts prepares students to gain technical exper

tise which qualifies them to begin careers or to meet graduate school requirements. Its museums, concert halls, and libraries are a vast resource for academic study. And because this city is home to a thriving fine and contemporary art scene, Loyola students gain vital access to the living history and practice of the arts. The Fine Arts program offers several majors: art history, ceramics, drawing and painting, photography, and visual communication. Each student’s course of study is tailored through consultation with an advisor to his or her needs, capabilities, and professional goals. This flexibility stresses individuality and allows students to broaden and enhance their professional experience. We offer coursework in Art History, Dance, Music, Musical Theatre, Studio Art, Theatre, and Visual Communication. Students can choose a course of study from any of our 7 different majors or 10 different minors, or simply choose to explore a class in the art that interests them.As an exclusively undergraduate liberal arts program, our courses are open to all Loyola students and require no audition or portfolio review for admittance into our programs. However, several of our classes require the completion of pre-requisite courses and a few require placement auditions to assure students are placed in classes appropriate to their skill level. The DFPA also offers a certificate in Graphic Design for non-degree seeking students.

"Results May Vary" 2026 Senior Exhibition closed yesterday with a reception at Loyola Museum of Art.

Spanning multiple disciplines and mediums, "Results May Vary" brings together independently developed projects shaped by each artist's interests, questions, and ways of working.

There is no shared prompt guiding the work in this exhibition. Each artist sets their own direction, deciding what to explore and how to approach it. Some projects emerge from personal or cultural inquiry, others from materials, visual systems, process, or communication with an audience. The work moves between craft, experimentation, conceptual thinking, and design, reflecting the different goals and processes across disciplines.

Seen together, the exhibition captures a group of emerging practitioners figuring out how they think, how they make, and what they care about. Each project reflects a different set of experiences and priorities. As the title suggests, the outcomes are as varied as the students who made them.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026!

OPENING: Will You Remember?

Will You Remember? is a group exhibition from students in Loyola University Chicago’s Digital Imaging class that explores how the Internet and digital media seep into everyday life: how we construct photographic fictions, archive ourselves, and navigate the wonder and unease of technological acceleration. Investigating unseen processes of compression and file storage, the translation of analog to digital, and the latent ways digital tools influence artistic decision-making, the selected works blur the boundaries between URL and IRL. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how contemporary image culture reshapes not only what we see, but how we remember, archive, and imagine.

🥂Opening Reception: Apr 23, 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m.
🎟️Free Entry!
📅Exhibition Dates: April 23 – May 2, 2026

OPENING: Our Fine Arts Minors put their work on display.

"Variable Spaces" features recent artwork by students minoring in Fine Arts in their senior year at Loyola University Chicago. The contributions of the Fine Arts Minors allow our division to remain diverse, interdisciplinary, and ambitious. Participating student artists were nominated by lead faculty in each program within the Fine Arts Division, including Photography & Video Art, Ceramics & Sculpture, Visual Communication, and Drawing, Painting & Printmaking.

The exhibition embodies the synergistic potential of the liberal arts experience, resulting in a passion for art, interdisciplinary thinking, and a commitment to intellectual curiosity. Artworks in the exhibition are unique examples of students bringing expertise from their major area of study into the creative spaces of the Fine Arts Division.

"I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" opens December 3 🧈

"I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter" is an exhibition of works produced in Loyola University Chicago’s Drawing II class during the Fall of 2025. During the semester, students took a deep, investigative look into the possibilities of material while exploring and recreating the fine line that can divide different disciplines. Studying the potential of Drawing as something “other”, this exhibition concentrates on the proposition that Drawing is more than pencil on paper. It examines how Drawing can be experienced in multiple dimensions and expands the notion of Drawing as a medium in its own. The course is led by Senior Lecturer Rafael Vera.

🥂Opening Reception: Dec 3 4:00p.m. - 6:00p.m.
