Humans vs. Zombies returns from the dead to bring the apocalypse back to UChicago! Pre-registration for Spring 2022 is now open...https://www.uchicagohvz.com/

Zombies (also called HvZ for short) is a live-action alternative reality game (ARG) where all but one player begin as Humans and try to survive the growing population of Zombies which extends from one Lead Zombie or "OZ" to the overwhelming majority of players. The ultimate goal of the game is for either all Humans to be turned into Zombies, or for the humans to survive the week, though points are

awarded based on "bites" and missions staged throughout the week. Humans can defend themselves using nerf foam dart guns and balled up socks, though the rules are more specific on defensive equipment. With these items, the goal is to hit a Zombie player, thus causing him to become a "non-player" for five minutes; Zombies are unarmed and must tag the Humans to gain a bite. Missions are staged throughout the week to promote player interaction and create the feel of a real Zombie Apocalypse. This culminates in an epic Friday Night Adventure mission with puzzles and obstacles, and then a final mission on the Tuesday following the game where players must reach a pickup location to be saved from the oncoming hordes. Safe Zones are established on campus as:
Dorm Rooms
Academic Buildings
Dining Halls (except the first floor of Bartlett)
Some Dorm Front Desks by request
Dorm-Wide Study Rooms
Housing Events +/- 30 minutes
Other things you are /required/ to be at: Class, Work, RSOs, within reason.

We return from the dead once more to bring you THE SUNDOWNERS, our Fall 2022 game.

The game will run from Tuesday, October 4th to Tuesday, October 11th with registration running TOMORROW from 8:30pm to 11:00pm at Hutch. There, you can also rent guns from us for $3 and a $9 security deposit which will be returned to you when you give the gun back. This year’s registration fee is $3 and can be paid via cash or Venmo.

At this time, you can pre-register for the game at uchicagohvz.com, which will speed up the registration process tomorrow night.

And with that, the apocalypse is officially over. For now…

Thank you to everyone for playing and a special congratulations to our survivors: Collin Polasky and Jonathan Rositas (squad “stay strapped on jah”) and Squid Tamar-Mattis (the all-knowing)!

Congratulations also to Liz Franson, who, with 33 kills and 51 zombie points, is officially the most successful zombie in game history!

As of tomorrow, April 14th, we will no longer be inhabiting the mod cubicle, so if you need to return your gun, please contact us for a way to do so. Additionally, please do not use your Nerf gun to shoot random passers-by. It is disrespectful and will get you disqualified from future games.

After a week of struggling for survival, the apocalypse is finally coming to an end! Humans: today is your chance to make it out alive. Zombies: today is your last chance to make sure they don’t.

Extraction will take place at 6:00pm today in the center of the main quad, and humans will have from 5:50pm to 6:00pm to get there. There will be 2 safe zones on the quad (marked with glowsticks) that humans can retreat to.

At extraction, humans will be given the opportunity to kill the necromancer! Throughout the day today, humans have had the opportunity to collect 8 eyeballs. If three eyeballs hit the necromancer (who will be wearing a dark pink bandana) during extraction, he dies.

Throughout the day today and at extraction, zombies will have the opportunity to hunt three high-value targets (each worth 3X zombie points). These humans are Alex Nobert, Alex Torres, and Emilio Levins Page. During extraction, zombies will also have pool noodles that they will be able to throw at humans in order to stun them for 20 seconds.

The apocalypse continues to heat up and things are getting more intense every day!

There is no mission tonight (go look for flags) and there will be a truce from 6:00pm Sunday to 6:00am Monday (you deserve a break).

Missions will continue on Monday and Tuesday evening and so will campus-wide safe zones from 6:15pm to 6:30pm to allow humans to arrive at mission briefing safely. Check the Discord or Listhost for details on where your group will be meeting for briefings and make sure to come out and earn points!

For anyone who somehow isn’t on them yet, here’s a reminder for how to join the Discord and Listhost.

Welcome to day three of the apocalypse and the first day of missions!

Tonight, there will be mission briefings at 6:30pm for both humans and zombies. Humans will meet in Harper while zombies meet in Kent.

To allow humans to attend the briefing, there will be a campus-wide safe zone from 6:15pm to 6:30pm.

Good luck in tonight’s mission and a friendly reminder to zombies that kills only count if the human’s bite code is imputed to uchicagohvz.com!

The game will run from Tuesday, April 5th at 8:15pm to Tuesday, April 12th at 6:00pm and in-person registration will take place on Tuesday, April 5th from 8:15pm to 11:00pm. You can also rent nerf guns from us at registration for $10 ($3 + $7 security deposit returned when the gun is returned).
