Loyola University Book Club

Loyola University Book Club We provide students with a stress free way to connect with each other over a wide variety of books. Themes will vary each time.

LUC Book Club will meet once a month and discuss a chosen book. We might read graphic novels, previously banned books, classic novels, plays, historic novels, foreign books, or whatever we find that sparks our interest. This club was created for anyone who loves reading.

Hi guys!

It was great seeing everyone at the first meeting, but here is a quick recap for those who couldn't make it. Our genre this month is mystery fiction, thus our book will be *Murder on the Rue Morgue* by Edgar Allen Poe. Also, the short stories we will read for anyone wanting more reading will be the Sherlock Holmes short stories. You can access the books via the library, used book stores, or by using the overdrive app. The app allows you to connect to any library that you currently have a library card at and get an electronic version of the book that you want. In addition to
choosing books we ran through some of the ideas that we have planned for the semester. Specifically, we talked about the book crawl. The book crawl will be an event where groups of us will travel to various used book stores along the Red Line. It's kinda like a bar crawl, but with books (Im super
proud of us for being so witty).

We also have a board position available
for anyone interested. We need a representative on our Book Club board. In essence, the representative is the face of our organization to CAN. They will go to the CAN meetings and then report back to the president of the club. Those interested will have a 10-15 minute period at the beginning of the next meeting (Tuesday September 29th) to present themselves to the club
and then we will all vote upon who the next representative will be. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email us!

Can't wait to see you guys next meeting to discuss the book!

*P.S.* For those wondering if they can still participate even though they didn’t show up, of course you can!

Sincerely,
Raj S. Patel

Hey Everyone! I hope everyone is as excited as we are about the FIRST EVER Loyola University Book Club meeting tomorrow night at 7:00 in Palm Court. Remember to bring one or two book suggestions - whatever genres, topics, etc - with you tomorrow because we will be spending the majority of tomorrow night's meeting selecting the book to read for February, and we appreciate your insight. We all look forward to seeing you tomorrow to start off a fantastic semester of literary discovery!

Hey everyone! our first meeting was yesterday and the first book was unveiled to be Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin. Read the book by next meeting and then we will have a discussion about it. Also, since there is a movie based upon this book, we will have a movie night sometime before next months meeting. We have been working with the library to find ways they can help us acquire books and are also looking for PDF versions of the book online for you guys, but you can get the book from a used book store for as little as $4. We will also post a list of books we won't read, but suggest for you to check out. This will be updated over time. Happy reading!
