DePaul Women's and Gender Studies

DePaul Women's and Gender Studies DePaul Women’s & Gender Studies offers BA & MA degrees emphasizing the theory & action of feminism.

Women's and Gender Studies is a well-established Department that has been offering a cutting-edge interdisciplinary curriculum since 1985. Our department emphasizes feminist and social justice theory with a highlight on agency, social responsibility, advocacy and activism. We are committed to theorizing the interconnectedness of systems and structures of gender, race, class, sexuality, age, abilit

y, culture, religion and nation within broader historical, social, global, and transnational contexts. The courses and programming consistently make connections between theory and praxis, research and public policy, and the academy and the community. We offer an undergraduate major and minor, a Five year BA/MA program, a Master of Arts (MA) Graduate Program, and a four-course Graduate Certificate Program. A high percentage of Women's and Gender Studies undergraduate students double major in other academic departments or programs. The department offers students a unique educational experience by combining rigorous academic scholarship with an exciting array of programs that provide additional opportunities for research and advocacy, community and campus engagement, and service learning and internship experience. The department also offers students a range of opportunities for leadership development and building community. Graduates from the Department of Women's and Gender Studies pursue a variety of paths; many choose to continue their education in Law, Social Work, History, Communication, Philosophy, Women's and Gender Studies, African and Black Diaspora Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, Ethnic Studies, International Studies, among others. Many others choose to pursue opportunities in the non-profit arena in legal advocacy, human rights, social services, arts and media, education, among others. Please visit the Alumni Resources section of our website to connect with our broader WGS community and see the important work our Alumni are engaged in. In recognizing the needs of our students to fund their education, we also offer several Graduate Research Assistantships each calendar year as well as scholarships for both graduate and undergraduate students. In addition to these funding opportunities through the department, DePaul University also offers broad support for students seeking to fund their education.
