The Construction Management Association of America Student Chapter of IIT was started in 1982 and is one of the three charter student chapters of the CMAA. Dr. David A
rditi, who has been the only Faculty Advisor for the chapter in its history, was the only academic member of the CMAA Education Committee that eventually promoted the formation of student chapters and solicited memberships from different universities. The CMAA Board of Directors approved the formation of student chapters at the end of 1981 and approved the first three student chapters (including IIT) early in 1982. Dr. Arditi chaired the CMAA Student Chapters Committee from 1987 to 1990; the committee drafted the first by-laws used by student chapters, established guidelines for evaluating the activities of student chapters, and instituted annual awards. Currently 18 student chapters across the nation are recognized by CMAA. The student chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) at IIT brings together students to develop these skills and prepare the next generation of construction leaders through:
· Field trips to Chicago area construction sites to gain a real-world perspective on projects.
· Guest lectures from construction professionals on best practices and the future of the field.
· Promoting our membership as excellent candidates in the job market
· Exchanging ideas and developing management skills through workshops and other group activities.
· Partnering with the Chicago-Area CMAA Professional Chapter in local events and meetings.
