Department of Writing, Rhetoric, & Discourse at DePaul University WRD prepares students to excel in the wide range of contexts in which they will write, think, & live

Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse is home to DePaul's First-Year Writing program. The department also offers a Minor in Professional Writing and a major in Writing and Rhetoric. At the graduate level, the Master of Arts in WRD addresses writing in professional and technical contexts, the preparation of post-secondary teacher-scholars in writing, and the study of language for writers. The Combined BA/MA in WRD allows undergraduates to begin taking graduate courses in their senior year.

In addition to student presentations, it will include a conversation with the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Chicago Changemaker Award for 2026, Ahmadou Dramé, Director of the Illinois Justice Project. Light refreshments will be served and all graduate students are welcome to attend. See you there!

College aged students have found themselves at the genesis of the social media age, and while it affects everyone, it can be overwhelming to face political and social issues online. Professor Poncin Reeves wants to equip students to engage in thoughtful dialogue around meaningful and sometimes controversial topics.
