Congratulations to alumnus Bradley Cosgrove (JD '06) on being named 2027 Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year”! He has been recognized in Best Lawyers since 2019. Bradley also underwrites and serves as a coach for the UIC Law Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolutions competition teams.

Pending successful passage of the bar exam, they will be appointed as Assistant State’s Attorneys and begin the next chapter of their legal careers serving communities across Cook County.

UIC Law is proud to welcome Professor Sang-ik Bae as the new director of the Patent Clinic, bringing nearly two decades of experience spanning private practice, global technology companies, and in-house counsel.
As director, Professor Bae hopes to make the Patent Clinic as close as possible to a real-world legal practice and help students gain the hands-on experience needed for success in practice.

Each year, following a competitive try-out process, the Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolutions program selects 50 students who will make up the fall competitive team cohort. Following a summer of workshops, they host the "Trial by Fire" mock trial competition and negotiation classic for the students in the program to compete for the title of UIC Law’s Trial by Fire champion.

The Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolution (TADR) program at UIC Law is honored to have practitioners and judges who invest their time and commitment into expanding the advocacy skills for our students.

Wilson Elser, a defense litigation firm in Chicago, co-hosted and sponsored the program's Trial By Fire and Negotiation Classic Competition this past weekend at the law school, seeing it as a great opportunity to provide students with exposure to civil litigation.

This competition is especially important to the TADR program because it helps finalize the teams who will represent UIC Law in external competitions in the upcoming season.

USAA published a video featuring Associate Dean Samuel Jones during his visit to the National Military Monument in Washington, D.C., which was launched in connection with the America250 commemoration.

Dr. Jones reflects on military service, veterans' mental health, and the importance of recognizing veterans in ways that provide appreciation, dignity, and hope.

Day Two of R.A.I.S.E. continued with a timely conversation on Current Legal Issues, led by UIC Law Professors Claire Johnson Raba and Christopher Muhawe.

Students explored recent court cases and rulings, discussed their broader impact, and considered how legal decisions can shape the lives of individuals and communities.

Through conversations like these, R.A.I.S.E. gives students an inside look at how the law evolves and what it means to engage thoughtfully with the issues shaping our legal system today.

Students a part of the Rising Attorneys Inclusive Summer Experience (R.A.I.S.E.) pre-law program at UIC Law explored different techniques to help them learn and think like a lawyer, including an introduction into courtroom advocacy and the trial process.

Those valuable skills were put to the test in a mock trial in which students were broken into teams, prosecution and defense, and argued a case in front of real-life justices.

Special thank you to alumnus and Illinois Appellate Court Justice Jesse G. Reyes (JD '82) and Illinois Appellate Court Justice David Navarro for continuously helping our R.A.I.S.E. students understand and appreciate the art and practice of advocacy.
