Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies This is the official page for the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies. http://neiu.edu/ccics

CCICS was established by Northeastern Illinois University in 1966 as an outgrowth of its concern for and commitment to Chicago’s inner city communities. Since its inception, CCICS has focused on the analysis of institutions, systems and people with a direct impact on the quality of life in the inner cities of the United States and in the world. The curricular thrust of its academic programs is to

prepare those who work and live in the inner city to understand and act upon the expressed interests of inner city residents and to participate fully in the richness of African and African-American cultures.

Happy ! Today we are participating in a national day of giving to raise funds for the Jacob H. Carruthers Center (CCICS).

Giving Tuesday is your chance to support The Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS) students at NEIU. Make a big impact for the NEIU Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies. Your gift will support students tuition and resources to further advance their education as well as provide various opportunities for personal and professional growth. With your help this we will continue to develop scholarship funding in honor of Dr. Conrad Worrill, the renowned former Director of CCICS, social activist, and educator.

Give $19.76 to provide lunch or snacks for a student in honor of the year 1976 when Dr. Conrad Worrill began his journey at CCICS.

Give $42.00 to support transportation for a student back and forth to campus and commemorate the 42 years of service Dr. Conrad Worrill gave to CCICS through his leadership, activism and teaching social and racial justice.

Give $78.00 for students to participate in cultural enrichment activities and conferences in celebration of the 78 years of life Dr. Conrad Worrill lived!

Give $201.60 in honor of the year 2016 when Dr. Conrad Worill retired from CCICS and continued to create opportunities for students by building community partnerships to close financial gaps in order to cover tuition, fees, books and maintain cultural relevant programming.

CCICS has a rich history and culturally relevant lens that provides equity to students of underrepresented communities. It is a safe space of inclusion, especially for Black identified students to thrive through the cultivation of academic scholarship, creative arts, social justice and more.

Whether you donate $20 or $1,000, you automatically become part of the solution. Join us on our mission to put Higher Education back on the agenda.

I'm inviting you to support the campaign. You can find out more about and make a donation here: https://igfn.us/vf/Give2NEIU/team/JacobHCarruthers

“The Public School System Got Me F’d Up,” critiques the current state of public education in the United States, focusing on its impact on marginalized communities. The book delves explicitly into the challenges of African American and Latinx populations, shedding light on their unique struggles within the public school system. It challenges the traditional model, aiming to remove inequities that disable, rather than empower, students. The book highlights issues such as biased curriculum, racial disparities in school funding and the urgent need for culturally responsive teaching. It advocates for immediate and comprehensive reform in the public school system.
