Study Success Tips:
A true productive study system should help you studying to understand.

✅Organized note taking
by how you learn best.
-adding to your PowerPoints relevant examples that add context to the concept
in your own words.

Example
Dehydration: Who is at risk? Trauma patients that hemorrhage , Athletes with rigorous exercise routines (LeBron James needs Gatorade)
Elderly patients with dementia , or infants needs frequent reminders to drink (uncle Joe/ my cousin Bella)

✅ A way to narrow your focus so you can recognize patterns throughout the nursing concepts.
-Make learning normal vs abnormal short pathophysiology your best friend
-Using repetition (20 mins a day) taking the notes your created and adding rationales from answering nclex style questions on the same topic.

✅ Taking your notes and teaching them back in your own words to a classmate or family/friend.

👉🏾Get to a point to where you can teach what you know off the top of your head you don’t need the notes anymore.

Dear Nursing Students

Tips for clinicals:

You will be in the way and that’s ok. 🤷🏾‍♀️

It’s ok to be nervous. You just can’t show patients that you are scared. They know. So speak up and communicate what you are going to do before you do it. 🤗

Being assertive looks like instead of asking “can I assess you?

Say “I’m going to perform a quick assessment ok starting with your head”

If they don’t want you to they will speak up. 🗣️🗣️🗣️

👀Get in the habit of using your inspection techniques to start your assessment right when you walk in the room.

🗣️Ask questions! It’s ok you are learning. You can also ask “can you show me first and then I’ll do it next time.”

Practice your assessment on family to get your landmarks and placement right. Every patient is different so it helps you get your flow down.

Topic: Fluid & Electrolytes

Create a chart that compares Fluid Deficit
& Fluid Overload causes, people at risk (give situation examples), vital signs changes, 3 unique assessment changes and 3 interventions a future nurse should consider.

Create an Electrolyte chart using the main ions of Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Calcium, Chloride telling me the main causes of shifts inside the body, 4 unique signs & symptoms and nursing interventions to consider.
