So tonight I put a grocery order in from Walmart through Instacart. I had been working on my list off and on for a couple hours. Coming down to the the cutoff time, I finally placed my order.
When my order arrived and Lee and I were unpacking the bags, I noticed the egg carton was leaning sideways and was in a bag with a jar of spaghetti sauce.
As I was planning my response to the Instacart survey and asking myself if I can cancel the tip, I reached in the bag with both hands to grab the carton to secure the eggs, and as I lifted, I realized it wasn’t heavy enough.
Now I’m wondering how many eggs are broken in the bottom of the bag. I was expecting to have to wipe the egg off the groceries, but to my surprise, everything was dry and there was a complete lack of eggs anywhere.
While my head tried to make sense of what was happening, I checked the other bags (as if the eggs fell into a completely different bag) and there were no sign of eggs at all. The thought crossed my mind that my eggs were now rolling around the shoppers trunk, so I quickly texted the driver to let them know they have egged their own car.
So, the next part I have no excuse for. As if to prove I wasn’t lying, I took a picture of the empty carton and texted that to the driver too (see below). As I watched my phone for a reply, I finally noticed that the carton had nothing but the words “12 eggs” printed on it.
While I dismissed the idea of an off brand, or better no brand, eggs being sold at Walmart, I remembered thinking that the price had been really inexpensive…too inexpensive.
Here is where I have to stop and ask a question. Did y’all know that you can buy an empty egg carton at Walmart? Me either, but we both do now.
Moving forward, if you want eggs and you see them listed for 52 cents, look closer.
