SWC EOPS

SWC EOPS Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) is a state-funded program that provides student academic support through various services. What is EOPS?

Extended Opportunity Program and Services is a state-funded, special assistance program for students who are socially, economically, and academically or language disadvantaged. EOPS assists students with counseling, money for books, emergency loans, priority registration, unlimited tutoring, and specialized support workshops. What services do EOPS students receive?

-Academi

c, career, and personal counseling
-Tutoring
-Book service
-Student Educational Plan (SEP) and Semester-by-Semester Plan for each student
-Progress reports - to provide information to students as to how they are doing in their classes
-Academic follow-up of students
-Transfer/career assistance
-Student Employment Services (job prep and job placement)
-Leadership development activities
-Workshops in personal development, study skills, career, and majors
-Cultural enrichment activities
-CARE Program – Grant and additional services for EOPS students who are single parents, have a child 13 years or younger and have an open case number with the --Department of Health and Human Services
-Emergency loans
-Cap and gown for graduation


How do students qualify? Information in this section is subject to change as new state or institutional policies are implemented. Currently, EOPS services are offered to students who meet all the following criteria:
-Be residents of California or be classified AB540;
-Be enrolled full-time (12 or more units) when accepted into the EOPS program (6 units if you have certification from DSS Office);
-Not have completed more than 58 units of degree-applicable course work. This includes course work completed at all colleges previously attended;
-Be qualified to receive a Board of Governors Fee Waiver Application (BOGW) A or B; AND
-Be judged to be educationally disadvantaged. How is educationally disadvantaged determined? (Must meet ONE of the following)

-Assessed below Math 45 or English 114
-No high school diploma or GED
-High school GPA less than 2.50
-Previously enrolled in basic skill courses
-Is first in family to attend college
-Speaks a language other than English at home

Submit applications in person. For more information call (619) 482-6456. What happens after applying? Student will be contacted regarding eligibility for EOPS. If eligible for EOPS, student will:
-Attend a mandatory EOPS orientation and sign an EOPS contract for services;
-Meet with a counselor and complete an SEP and a Semester-by-Semester Plan.
