As Summer Semester comes to a close and we prepare for the Fall, there will be some temporary changes to our operating hours. Check out all the details below:

-Limited Availability (CLOSED after 5pm) August 11th -15th*
-CLOSED Saturday, August 16th
-Limited Availability (CLOSED after 5pm) August 18th - 21st**
-Limited Availability (CLOSED after 2pm) August 22nd**
-CLOSED Saturday, August 23rd

*From August 11th - 15th, we'll remain open reduced hours for part pick-up and self-directed work. Our staff will be committed to resetting for the Fall semester, and some equipment maybe unavailable due to necessary maintenance.

Over the past few weeks, the UCGFM partnered with the Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative to host our annual Makers in Education intensive. This professional development program partners with educators around the tri-state area to impart valuable skills that can be passed on to their students and fellow educators.

At the end of this program, we held a final review to showcase what our educators have been working on. Everyone created an educational project, and there were quite a few innovative personal projects that came out of the program too.

Makers in Education is always one of the highlights of our year here at the Makerspace, and this year was no different. We hope to see faces both familiar and new for next year's MiE intensive!

The Makerspace is buzzing with students preparing for their capstones, final projects and presentations! As the semester is coming to a close, we wish everyone good luck on their finals and we can't wait to see what you make next!

Remember, summer is just around the corner, but the UCGFM stays open! We'll be training new hires for the summer rotation in just a few weeks, and soon enough be back in full swing ready to assist you in all your creative needs.

This weekend, after months of preparation and practice, the UC Combat Robotics Team is off to Connecticut to fight in a National Havoc Robot League World Championship Qualifier event. The Combat Robotics team has been using the UCGFM labs to equip their bots with the tools necessary to emerge victorious this weekend. We wish them the best of luck!

Are you interested in making your own clothes, working with textiles, or want to learn more about sewing? The UC Ground Floor Makerspace is here for you! Led by our knowledgeable staff, We're holding sewing certifications every week for the next month.

This Thursday (02/13) at 10AM we have a special Jumpstart Desktop Sewing Certification.
On Friday (02/14) we have Industrial Sewing at 3PM, and another Desktop Sewing Certification at 5PM that day.

In preparation for BLINK Cincinnati, the nation's largest public light and art event, Liam Merkle & Clay Brown, two recent UC graduates, are making use of the Groundfloor Makerspace and the skills they developed throughout their college careers to fabricate illuminated dragonflies for the Dragonfly Foundation to use in the Blink parade.

BLINK is a four day event that lights up Cincinnati with public exhibitions from local and global artists. This year, BLINK runs from October 17-20.

Through our ongoing partnership with Kinetic Vision, we hosted a 5-day intensive bootcamp for the UC co-op students preparing to start work at Kinetic Vision this fall, all right here at our very own Makerspace.

In this bootcamp, co-op students had plenty of hands-on experience using digital fabrication tools, and were able to take a design from concept to prototype to finish over 40 hours of hard work. The design-for-manufacturing skillset learned from our bootcamp will help these students fit right in at Kinetic Vision.

We’re back for the fall semester!

If you’ve been wanting to get trained on our equipment, now’s the time. We’re running Jumpstart programming, meaning we have certifications every day, where our awesome staff members lead you through a guided training program. New and experienced makers are all welcome!

As the summer semester comes to a close, the Makerspace will be preparing for another great semester. We’ll be back to our regular hours when classes resume for the fall semester on August 26th!

All summer long, we’ve had some talented makers using our space to its fullest. From gorgeous laser engraved topographical maps to precisely cut turner's cubes, we’ve seen it all.

We’ll remain open for part pick-up and self-directed work from August 12th-23rd, as our staff will be installing some exciting new equipment that we can’t wait to share with you. For these next two weeks, our hours will temporarily change. We will only be open until 5PM, and will be closed on weekends. We're excited to see you again this Fall!

Join us for our two-part camping chair workshop on Monday and Wednesday next week!

Our experienced staff will take you through the process of crafting the wooden base of the chair, granting a certification in Woodshop A. On Wednesday, we'll teach you desktop sewing skills to make the fabric seat.
