The Xavier University Concert Choir, Men’s Chorus, and Women’s Chorus are open to all Xavier students by audition. Please see the descriptions included below. As the premiere ensemble in the choral departm
ent, the Concert Choir sings throughout the city and regularly tours the nation representing the university. The Concert Choir sings a range of repertoire from Renaissance music to music of living composers. The choir often performs with the orchestra in some of the finest venues in the city. The Xavier University Men's Chorus is open to male students, faculty and staff from all disciplines on campus, as well men from throughout the greater Cincinnati area. This collaborative effort seeks to bring together men that have a love of singing and a desire to work together to achieve excellence in performing the great body of repertoire for men's voices. This repertoire includes many styles with a special emphasis on the standards of male chorus literature. The XU Men's Chorus frequently collaborates with other XU ensembles as well as other men’s choruses from throughout the city and region, performing multiple concerts each semester. In March of 2016, the XU Men’s Chorus made their first appearance at the national conference of the association of Intercollegiate Male Choruses and performed for the Ohio Music Education Association’s 2017 Professional Development Conference this past February. The group opened this year’s season by performing on the Xavier Music Series with the internationally recognized male jazz group, The Four Freshmen. The Xavier University Women’s Chorus includes students from all disciplines who love to sing and enjoy the camaraderie that achieving excellence in choral performance brings to its members. This ensemble sings a variety of treble repertoire, frequently featuring the poetry and music of female artists. Often sharing concerts with the Xavier Men’s Chorus, the Women’s Chorus performs on campus and throughout the community each semester. In April 2017, the Women’s Chorus performed in the National Festival Chorus at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The Edgecliff Vocal Ensemble (EVE) is selected from the membership of the Xavier University Concert Choir. While many members of the ensemble are music majors, experienced singers with strong musicianship skills from all majors on campus are regularly accepted into the group. EVE performs compositions from the broad range of the western choral tradition as well as music of diverse cultures especially suited for smaller groups of singers, including music from jazz and popular idioms. The group has toured internationally, competed in the 2012 World Choir Games, and collaborated regularly with other Cincinnati area musical organizations, including the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Collegium Cincinnati, and the Cincinnati Early Music Festival.
