AEI - University of Cincinnati Student Chapter

AEI - University of Cincinnati Student Chapter The student chapter of AEI at UC will serve as a tool for AEs to reach out to one another, develop professionally, and network with industry professionals.

Welcome to the student chapter of the Architectural Engineering Institute at the University of Cincinnati! The goal of this organization is to provide AE students with a close group of friends and classmates who share their academic interests. The AE program is a unique program here at UC and we think that AEI-UC would help students get the most out of every resource that UC has to offer. Hopefully you all will find this page to be a helpful resource. Go Bearcats!

Took longer than anticipated, but at long last here is the first Student Spotlight! As I mentioned, I'll be starting with myself. My name's Tyler Seibert, and I'm a fifth year serving as the head of social media on your AEI Exec. Board.

I have co-op experience in 3 different areas, most recently as a Facilities Engineer with Kroger. Facilities Engineer is a fancy way of saying PM from the owner's perspective. As an FE, I served as manager (assistant to the manager, really) of both store and gas station projects. When Kroger builds new stores and gas stations, one of us is put in charge of the project, managing the GC and his subcontractors. A perk of this position was only about half of my time was spent in the office; the other half was out on the job site.

I also worked as a design co-op for McPherson Architecture & Interiors, a small design firm out in Denver. Here, I was a part of only a 6 person company. Being so small, I had the opportunity to take on a lot of responsibility and learned how to really work in a team environment. The work was both residential and commercial, culminating in the design of new locker rooms for the Colorado Rockies.

My first two co-op semesters were spent in Cincinnati with SSOE Group, an MEP design firm. Here I used both AutoCAD and Revit to design mechanical and plumbing layouts for clients such as Ford, the United States Navy, and Nashville Public Schools. This gave me the ability to become familiar with the more technical side of the industry.

Currently, I have yet to find a full-time position but am leaning towards working in the construction field. I really enjoyed PM-type work, being able to build relationships with people from every aspect of the job and getting to spend a lot of time outside of the office. When I'm not working or doing school stuff, you can usually find me outside, often playing golf or fishing. I have an unhealthy relationship with sports and I have a cat named Luna (still a dog person though!).

If you would like to be featured for the next Student Spotlight or are interested in working for someone I've worked for, let me know!
