The 34-member Pomona College Glee Club brought its exceptional repertoire of unaccompanied choral music to audiences in Colorado and New Mexico last month on its 2026 concert tour.
It was the first time in at least 30 years that the group had performed in either state.

“Tour is always one of my favorite parts of Glee Club because it’s the culmination of what we’ve been working so hard on all semester,” says Sydney Cottrell ’26, who graduated with a politics major just days before setting off on tour.

The Pomona College Glee Club brought its exceptional tapestry of unaccompanied choral music to audiences in Colorado and New Mexico late last month on its 2026 concert tour—the first time in at least 30 years the group had performed in either state.

Pomona College students traveled to Las Vegas, Oakland, San Diego, San Francisco and various Inland Empire cities earlier this year to serve and explore communities facing unique challenges. Their respective AlternaBreak trips were equal parts revelatory and inspiring.

Organized annually by the Draper Center, this year’s AlternaBreak sent groups of students to Las Vegas, Oakland, San Diego, San Francisco and various Inland Empire cities to serve and explore.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee has a new champion: Shrey Parikh, a 14-year-old from Rancho Cucamonga, California, who captured the 2026 title with a record-setting spell-off performance.

His victory continues California’s spelling bee legacy—one that includes Pomona’s own Ananya Vinay '27. Since arriving at Pomona, the Fresno, California native has flourished as a student, researcher, writer and mentor, describing her time at the College as “transformational.”

From championship words to lifelong learning, the spirit of curiosity and dedication lives on.

Ananya Vinay ’27 won the Scripps National Spelling Bee at 12—a fun fact she says she often used for icebreakers her first year at Pomona. For all she did in the months following her win, she’s accomplished even more since.

Four members of the Class of 2026 received the Rena Gurley Archibald High Scholarship Prize this year for ranking highest in scholarship.

Arenaria Cramer ’26, Thomas Shaw ’26, Josephine Yip ’26 and Grace Zheng ’26 were announced as winners by President G. Gabrielle Starr during Commencement on May 17.

Selected from the pool of graduating seniors with perfect GPAs, the awardees were chosen for their performance on their senior exercise, diversity in courses taken, and other scholarly accomplishments.

Long before becoming a five-time NBA champion as head coach of the Spurs, Hall of Famer and one of basketball's most respected leaders, Popovich spent eight season on the sidelines for the Sagehens.

From Claremont to the sport's biggest stage, his career is a testament to the impact of great coaching, lifelong learning and leadership.
