cw: Domestic violence, sexual assault
Hi All,
I, as the Events Board Chair at Pitzer, along with my respective counterparts at the other Claremont Colleges, would like to make public our statement of solidarity with communities affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.
This letter has been in the works for over a month now, and reflects the values of all 5C Event Heads.
We are sharing this letter with our respective student bodies to encourage peers to think more actively about the way programming on the campuses can affect survivors. A recent example of insensitive programming was the Hugh Hefner/Playboy themed party that occurred at CMC this past weekend. To be clear, this event was not created nor supported by CMC's Vice President of Student Activities. However, given the timing of the release of this letter in conjunction with the event, I thought it best to share that I and the other Event Heads do not condone an event celebrating the life of one of the most abrasively misogynistic men to command the public spotlight.
Please find the letter below, and share it as you see fit. To be a Pitzer student is to embody the Core Values of the institution. To disregard the pain and trauma of survivors in exchange for crude event planning does not reflect the ability to evaluate the impact of individual and collective actions manifested in our social policies.
Provida Futuri,
Elijah Pantoja
