APSU Opera Theatre, directed by Dr. Penelope Shumate, is pleased to host a Masterclass with Bass-Baritone Richard Ollarsaba featuring APSU Opera Theatre student performers this Thursday, September 19, 2024, (3:45-5:30pm) in Heydel Hall in the Art and Design Building at Austin Peay State University. Special Thanks to the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts at APSU (CECA) for providing a grant to make this possible. This event is free and open to the Public. Mexican-American bass-baritone, Richard Ollarsaba, praised by The Washington Post for his “meltingly smooth bass-baritone” and for “evoking a young Ruggero Raimondi in looks and manner”, represented the USA in the 2019 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, was a member of the prestigious Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago for three seasons, and a grand finalist in the 2013 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He has performed roles with Pensacola Opera, Opera Columbus, Portland Opera, Piedmont Opera, Arizona Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Chicago Opera Theater, Knoxville Opera, Opera Hong Kong, Opera Grand Rapids, Opera Carolina, Minnesota Opera, Virginia Opera, Kentucky Opera, North Carolina Opera, Tulsa Opera, Annapolis Opera, Barhabor Music Festival, Jacksonville Symphony, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Wolf Trap Opera, Intermountain Opera Bozeman, Opera Omaha, and Opera Cleveland. As a concert soloist, he has performed with the Mainly Mozart Festival, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Phoenix Symphony, the Kansas City Symphony, the Madison Bach Musicians, the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, the Ravinia Festival, the Macon Symphony Orchestra, the Master Chorale of South Florida, the Salisbury Symphony, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood. www.richardollarsaba.com
