To all my former Fontbonne University - Saint Louis Global Griffins:
A former student who graduated from Fontbonne in 2016 reached out today regarding an official-looking email received from the “U.S. Department of Education – International Academic Compliance Division.” The message claimed that, due to Fontbonne’s closure, the student was required to initiate a credit transfer process within 48 hours or risk losing the validity of the degree and credits.
THIS IS A SCAM.
There is no U.S. Department of Education office with this name.
Once a degree has been granted in the United States, it remains valid, even if the issuing institution later closes. No action is required to maintain the validity of earned credits or degrees.
If an email or phone call of this nature is received, please do not respond and hang up immediately. These scammers are targeting former international students in an attempt to obtain money.
